For Cultura Bank handler ikke bankvirksomhet om å få penger til å bli enda flere penger. Penger har jo ingen verdi før vi bestemmer oss for hva de skal brukes til. Uten menneskers mål og handlekraft er penger ingenting. Få hadde hørt om ”social banking” da Cultura Bank ble startet i 1997. Denne internasjonale bankbevegelsen bygger på to hovedprinsipper: transparens – at innskyterne får vite hva pengene brukes til – og at utlånsformålene vurderes etter sosiale og miljømessige kriterier. Cultura Bank var først ute i Norge, og etter 10 år er vi fremdeles den eneste norske banken som driver etter disse prinsippene. Vi driver bank fordi vi vil at penger skal realisere gode ideer, starte levedyktige virksomheter og gi mennesker rom til å skape muligheter for seg selv og andre.

The Global Ideas Bank's origins lie in the Institute for Social Inventions, which was set up in 1985 by Nicholas Albery, social inventor and visionary extraordinaire. From small beginnings (a network of inventors, a quarterly newsletter), the Institute grew into a fully-fledged organisation under his leadership: producing an annual compendium, running social inventions workshops and promoting creative solutions around the world. It was part of the first European Social Innovations Exchange, and has been a source of inspiration for countless individuals and organisations. In 2001, the Institute was awarded a Margaret Mead Special Recognition Award for "community creativity for a new century"

INAISE (the International Association of Investors in the Social Economy) is a global network of socially and environmentally oriented financial institutions. Created in 1989, INAISE has grown rapidly as the movement of social investors gained importance, volume and visibility in a number of European and non-European countries. Through Inaise, social investors from Norway to South Africa and from Costa Rica to Japan have been joining forces to exchange experience, disseminate information and demonstrate to the world that money can actually be a means to achieve positive social and environmental change.
