Mads Gilbert: Ekstremt kritisk sykehus-situasjon i Gaza

Mads Gilbert: Ekstremt kritisk sykehus-situasjon i Gaza

Update: Extreme situation in the South now (my updated information as of today Aug 2. at 08:21 Norwegian time, phone call with Al-Shifa Hospital and Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Yusef AbuAlrish, mobile +xxxxxx ).

He tells me:

1) al-Najaar Hospital (40 beds) has around 400 injured, 70 killed, heavy shooting around the hospital, evacuation impossible, one MOH-ambulance shot, all three paramedics and three wounded on board killed. ICRC states: we cannot give any guarantees for the safe evacuation of the hospital.

2) al-Kuweitii Hospital (small private, just 20 beds) now has 70 injured, cases needing immediate evacuation, ICRC: cannot guarantee safe access or evacuation

3) Nasser Hospital and Gaza European Hospitals (also in southern sector): Overcrowded, crisis

4) Al Shifa Hospital: totally overcrowded, extreme working conditions, large number of ICU-patients, increasing numbers of burn cases, urgent need to evacuate heavy cases for life-saving postop care outside Gaza.

We must demand UN-secured corridors for evacuation of wounded and intl. protection of Gazas hospitals, ambulances, medical staff and patients:

1. air-bridge-evacuation by UN helicopters of the wounded, surviving patients from Al-Shifa out of Gaza

2. UN-protected ground-ambulance evacuation from all hospitals in Gaza, in particular evacuation from the disaster areas in the South and the small hospitals to the larger ones

3. immediate protection of all Gaza hospitals with international, UN-presence with uniformed cars and UN observers at each hospital in Gaza

4. immediate protections and escorting of ground ambulances evacuating wounded

5. immediate stop in the bombing

6. immediate lifting of the siege
